HTC to make Facebook phone, Samsung, the Nexus phone!
Well, now this should get a lot of techies buzzing away. Digitimes is reporting that Google has decided to stick with Samsung Electronics for the manufacture and sales of its Nexus device. This perhaps the surest sign that there’s another Nexus device in the works.
HTC, the company that made the first Nexus, has made plans to go it’s own way and has decided to work with Facebook in creating a more potent and better Facebook phone. HTC already had made two Facebook phones and launched them last year. Expected in the third quarter of this year the phone will be deeply customized and integrated with Facebook services.
Google is sticking with Samsung because of its innovation capabilities and the ability to control the supply of key components.
This move makes sense for both the parties. Google will look to better the hardware capabilities and innovate further on the software. On the other hand, Facebook will definitely look to enter the lucrative smartphone market and make further inroads into its users lives. It also needs to create another avenue for generating revenue as it will become a public company soon.
It seems like the forking story might come true after all. Though the reasons may be different, the motives are the exact same.
Not sure how much of it will come true… so until there is confirmation, we’ll file it under leaks & rumours.
