Nokia C3 Review Part-2: Lighting

Nov 24th, 20101 Comment

In the first part we had a look at the Design of the Nokia C3 now lets have a look at the lighting aspect.

1. Backlight:
The Back-lighting in Nokia C3 is pretty good. The backlight is bright enough that it can double up as a torch in case of emergencies (it does not have a LED flash). Nokia by continuing the S40 tradition, they have not included a Light Sensor in the Nokia C3. So in case you are in a dark room the display brightness might be a pain to your eyes. Overall the backlight is very nicely adjusted.

I would rate Lighting on the C3 8/10. Good lighting indoors as well as outdoors, but a light sensor could have a extra point.

2. Notification Light:
In the Nokia C3 there is no such notification light as present in the latest E-Series and N-Series devices. Though you can always press the End key when the keypad is locked to check missed call or messages if any. New Mail is Notified with the “@” icon on top of the homescreen.

3. Keypad Lighting:
Keypad is the most important sector in lighting department. As per the above image you can see is that the keypad light is spread across all keys including the Soft Keys as well as the Contacts and Messaging key. The lighting is centralized so that the keys on the sides such as Q, function buttons, Space Bar, Enter and Backspace keys are a bit greyed out. The overall visibility in darkness is pretty decent not too bright not too low they are easily visible under various conditions.

The C3 is very nicely built phone but suffers from a light leak which can be spotted on the back cover release buttons on the left and right side of the device.

I would rate the C3 10/10 for nicely placing the lights which spread across all keys.
