Twitter for Windows Phone app gets update – Push Notifications finally!
Twitter’s official Windows Phone app has been a joke, to say the least. The UI is still the same, however, but they’ve added Push Notifications, and it’s a relief, because the official app is free. The third-party alternatives like Rowi are offering Push Notifications as well, but for a price.
You can turn on/off Push at various parameters. The app lets you configure Push for Mentions, Direct Messages, Favorites, Retweets and New Followers, ala its Android app. You can set it to notify you for any new mention/RT/Direct Message from anyone or only from your followers. All that for free, quite good.
My setup? I’m using Rowi/Mehdoh/Twabbit and I’ve turned off Background Tasks for all of them. Twitter’s Push notifications + Third party app to use Twitter = better battery backup + FREE!
