Samsung Announces Incentive Program for the Indian Olympic Contingent

Smartphone giant, Samsung, has announced cash incentivess for Indian Olympic contingent. The winner will be given cash awards worth Rs 20 lakh, 15 lakh or 10 lakh (Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively). Samsung’s Galaxy S III is the official smartphone of this sporting event.

 

At a recent send off event in Delhi, Samsung also announced family support program for Olympic ‘Ratnas’ that provides a scholarship for high potential sportsmen and women; includes  ace shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu and MC Mary Kom, the only Indian woman boxer to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The ‘Olympic Ratna’ Program now includes the eight sportsmen and women:

Shooters: Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Ronjan Sodhi, Manavjit Singh Sandhu

Boxers: MC Mary Kom, Vikas Krishan Yadav, Laishram Devendro Singh

Archer: Deepika Kumari.

Samsung India, the Official Sponsor of the Indian team to the London 2012 Olympic Games, today announced its incentive program for the Indian Contingent. Samsung ‘Most Valued Performance’ Awards for individual medal winners at the London 2012 Olympic Games will entail cash awards of Rs. 20 lakh for Gold medal winners, Rs.15 lakh for Silver medal winners and Rs.10 lakh for Bronze medal winners.

Samsung’s 2012 ‘Olympic Ratna’ program that provides a scholarship for high potential sportsmen and women, saw the addition of ace shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu and MC Mary Kom, the only Indian woman boxer to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The ‘Olympic Ratna’ Program now includes the eight sportsmen and women:

Shooters: Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Ronjan Sodhi, Manavjit Singh Sandhu

Boxers: MC Mary Kom, Vikas Krishan Yadav, Laishram Devendro Singh

Archer: Deepika Kumari

Announcing the Company’s incentive program, Mr. B.D. Through the Samsung Olympic Ratna Program that was first instituted at the Athens Olympics we have sought to nurture and develop Indian sporting talent. Our support of the Indian Contingent, our Incentive program as well as our ‘Olympic Ratna’ program, are all aimed at enriching the growing sporting culture in the country as well as motivating our Olympic heroes. We wish them the best and hope they do the country proud.”

Lauding Samsung’s efforts towards encouraging sports in the country, Raja Randhir Singh, Secretary General of the IOA and Member, International Olympic Committee said, “I would like to appreciate the strong and consistent support that Samsung has been giving to the sports movement in the country. I am confident that the Indian team will not just put up a stellar performance but will bring back medals for us as well.”

To motivate the Samsung Olympic Ratnas, the Company has also announced a ‘Family Support’ program wherein Samsung will support the travel of one family member of the Olympic Ratna to the London Games, to be with them during their event and provide them support and encouragement.

To rally support for the Indian Olympic team and as part of its endeavor to make this year’s Olympics one that everyone can truly be part of Samsung has kicked off a digital campaign.  Samsung has set up a special page on Facebook with a ‘Fans Speak’ application that allows fans to send their best wishes to the Indian team members. By sharing their wishes on the www.facebook.com/samsungIN page, users will be entitled to a chance to win exciting gifts from Samsung. They can also wish the Indian team by accessing the application through their mobile phones by logging on to m.samsungolympics2012.inSamsung has also simultaneously setup more than 500 kiosks with Samsung Galaxy SIII, the official Olympics phone, across its Smartphone cafes and mobile retail channel from where users can send their wishes to the team.

Additionally, Samsung has also created a special application on Olympics that can be downloaded on select Samsung Smartphones from the London 2012 category of the Samsung Mobile Apps store. Titled ‘PlayUp’, the application allows users to download real time status including schedules, medal tally, key events and standings, as well as provide an access to a host of other interesting details pertaining to Games throughout the Olympics.
