Samsung Galaxy S and Tab will not get ICS
With Samsung announcing the Galaxy range of devices that will receive the ICS update, the future of the Galaxy S and the Tab was hanging in the balance. A lot of people were speculating that they will receive it later. But on it’s corporate blog, Samsung has confirmed that the new Android update (4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich) will not be coming to the devices.
This is a bit of a blow to the users of those devices. Samsung also goes on to state that despite Nexus S and Galaxy S being pretty similar, the Galaxy S will not receive the update since there are other things like TouchWiz, Samsung Widgets, video calling which have to be provided separately by Samsung and the Galaxy S does not have sufficient memory for this.
Here’s the link to the blog post [Since the post is in Korean, I've got a Google Translate link which will allow you to read the post in English]
Will Samsung also have to bend to the demands of the owners like HTC did for the Gingerbread update? or will Samsung users go the CM9 way? Only time will tell.
On a side note most users in India are still waiting for the Gingerbread updates for the Galaxy S2 (i9100) which have yet to arrive.
