Over the weekend I just got delivery of the Huawei Honor for review and I’ve been setting it up and playing with it for a while now. So before I put up a review of the phone soon, I thought it’d be nice to have a first impressions for the phone and the unboxing video as well.

The Huawei Honor is a decent looking device which offers an interesting mix between hardware and looks. Since the phone is priced at Rs.19990 in India, it qualifies as a mid end device. In terms of specs it quite a strong contender, offering some pretty impressive hardware for the price.

Specs of the Honor:

•     1.4GHz Scorpion (Snapdragon) processor – Single Core
•     512MB RAM
•     8MP AF camera with HDR capability and 720p video recording
•     VGA front facing camera
•     LED notification light
•     4 inch (854×480) LCD with 16.7million colour support
•     1900mAh LI-Poly battery
•     Android 2.3.6, upgradable to Android 4.x

These are the key highlights of the phone. The phone is of course an HSPA capable device with WiFi and Bluetooth, so don’t be worried to not see that info up there.

Upon first boot, the phone seems unimaginably smooth, I wasn’t expecting such a smooth experience with the touchscreen so it was a pleasant surprise there. In addition to the device in general seemed very smooth and quick at responding to swipes and taps. Such agility is usually reserved for the high end flagship products.

The phone is quite light to hold and wire mesh design at the back of the phone (battery door) provides excellent grip. The back panel design is unique for a phone. The power button and volume rocker are on the removable panel which means that the four sides and the back are one big back panel. That’s the first time I’m seeing this on a smartphone in recent times.

My premature impression of the phone is quite positive and it seems like a very good deal for the price. Although a thorough review is the only way to real separate initial awe with reality.
